Necrobinder

Necrobinder

CHARACTER

A master of the macabre in Slay the Spire 2, wielding proxy combat through her companion Austy, the lethal Doom mechanic, and Soul token cycling for explosive velocity turns.

Pre-Release

Background

The Necrobinder is a new playable character in Slay the Spire 2, bringing a completely unique "proxy-fighting" style to the game. Unlike previous characters who stand alone against the horrors of the Spire, she relies on a symbiotic relationship with her colossal reanimated companion, Austy (Osty), and a terrifying lethal threshold mechanic known as Doom. She offers the most complex and rewarding tactical experience in Slay the Spire 2 to date.

The Companion System: Austy & Proxy Combat

Austy (Osty)

Austy (Osty)

A colossal skeletal companion unique to Slay the Spire 2's Necrobinder. Acts as a dynamic Meat Shield, automatically absorbing incoming attack damage.

Proxy Defense: Austy creates a "pseudo-block" layer independent of standard Block stacks, automatically absorbing damage that would hit the player.

Summon & Revive: Pull Aggro is essential for summoning or reviving Austy if his HP falls to zero, while Friendship allows you to scale his maximum HP.

Visual Scaling: Austy actually grows in size as his HP increases, providing a clear visual indicator of your defensive strength.

Weaponize: Cards like Bone Shards offer high AOE damage and Block at the cost of sacrificing Austy, requiring you to carefully time his resurrection.

The Doom Mechanic

Lethal Threshold: A signature mechanic new to Slay the Spire 2 โ€” Doom is a debuff that tracks a lethal threshold. If a creature's total Doom stacks meet or exceed its current HP, it is instantly executed at the end of its turn.

Stacking Doom: Use powers like Plague Carrier (adds Doom every time Austy attacks) or skills like Deathbringer+ and Scourge to rapidly accumulate Doom stacks.

Finisher: The rare attack Time's Up! deals damage equal to the target's current Doom, often triggering an immediate execution.

Double-Edged Sword: Neurosurge grants massive resources but applies Doom to yourself every turn, effectively putting the player on a countdown to their own demise.

Soul Harvesting & Ethereal Velocity

Soul Tokens: A Soul is a 0-cost token that draws 2 cards and exhausts, acting as the Necrobinder's primary engine for deck cycling in Slay the Spire 2.

Generation: Generate Souls through defensive cards like Grave Warden or aggressive ones like Severance.

Ethereal Synergy: Many of her strongest cards, such as Defile and Enfeebling Touch, vanish if not played. But with Pagestorm, every Ethereal card drawn triggers even more card draw, enabling explosive "velocity" turns where the Necrobinder plays dozens of cards in a single cycle.

Strategic Overview

Playing the Necrobinder in Slay the Spire 2 requires a shift in mindset from traditional health management to resource-proxy management. She is one of STS2's most mechanically complex characters.
