The Regent
A sophisticated and mysterious figure who manages Stars as a secondary resource. Focuses on resource management, card transformation, and the Forge mechanic to scale the Sovereign Blade.
Background
The Regent is a new playable character in Slay the Spire 2, formally revealed in the December 2025 "Neowsletter." A sophisticated and mysterious figure, The Regent brings an entirely new resource management system to Slay the Spire 2's roguelike deckbuilding formula. Their playstyle focuses on resource accumulation and card transformation, drawing comparisons to the "scaling" nature of the Defect from the original Slay the Spire.
Core Combat Mechanics
The Star System
Unique Resource: A brand-new mechanic in Slay the Spire 2 — in addition to Energy, The Regent manages a secondary resource called Stars.
Persistence: Unlike Energy, which resets every turn, Stars are accumulated and carried over between turns.
Star Cost: Many powerful cards have a 0 Energy cost but require a Star cost to play. For example, Falling Star costs 0 Energy but requires 2 Stars.
Strategy: Players must balance "generating" Stars in the early turns to "spend" them on high-impact finishers later.
The Transform Mechanic
Hand Manipulation: The Regent can temporarily transform cards in their hand into specific tactical tokens.
Using cards like GUIARDS!!! will transform your entire hand into Minion Sacrifice cards (which provide Block and Exhaust).
Strategy: This acts as a powerful defensive "panic button" or a way to thin your deck mid-combat to reach infinite loops.
The Forge Mechanic
Scaling Weaponry: Similar to "Rampage," cards with the Forge keyword permanently increase the power of a specific card for the duration of the combat.
The Sovereign Blade: The centerpiece of this mechanic. Cards like Summon Forth will "Forge" the Sovereign Blade (increasing its damage) and move it into your hand from the draw pile, discard pile, or exhaust pile.
Retain: The forged weapon typically has the Retain keyword, allowing you to build up a massive "one-shot" kill while waiting for the perfect window.
Synergies with Colorless Cards
In Slay the Spire 2, The Regent has a unique affinity for Colorless (Neutral) Cards, more so than any other character:
Resource Generation: Spectrum Shift acts as an upgraded "Magnetism," adding a random Colorless card to your hand at the start of every turn.
Scaling: Supermassive is described as the "Colorless version of Claw," allowing for a dedicated scaling build centered around neutral cards.
Strategic Overview
Combat Tempo: Among Slay the Spire 2's roster, The Regent is a "slow-burn" character. They typically have a weak Turn 1, requiring setup to generate Stars and Forge their Blade.
Difficulty: High. One of Slay the Spire 2's most demanding characters — success depends on meticulous resource tracking, knowing exactly when to save Stars and when to transform your hand.
